The ancient truths of The Living God are true whether we believe them or not. And I believe He is all about LIFE and placing opportunities allllllll around us that beacon for us to choose LIFE, but are we? Or are we listening to the voices of Death?
This year, the month of October on the Gregorian calendar line up with the Hebrew month Tishri. The two months have a lot of similarities, but one has a central core of celebrating LIFE and the trumpet call for LIFE and allowing God Himself to cleanse and sanctify us and prepare us to be in His Presence forever followed by an 8-day PHAT party to celebrate and one is about glorifying, amplifying, and magnifying death.
In the American culture, the pagan festival has become so central to our fall rhythms that black skulls and witches and jack-o-lanterns start showing up on our grocery store aisles in September. They’re even cutesy and cartoonie, trying to soften the blow that at it’s core, it’s about dressing up and pretending to be something we’re not. Now, I’m all about playing and fantasy and costumes—but the difference in the core messages between Tishri and what it represents and October and what it represents is striking. It’s worthy of exploring.
